Chapter 2750 - The Immortals of Legend
Chapter 2750 - The Immortals of Legend
There was a grassy plain in the distance.
The sound of rapid hoofbeats rang out as armored soldiers galloped across the plains. There were over a hundred of them in total.
Their leader was none other than the general of Southern Currents City, Ma Yu.
The soldiers could already spot their prey in the distance: nine people, a mix of men and women.
General Ma Yu raised his hand and signaled to his troops, who strung their bows and readied themselves for battle. They moved as one, and they were obviously well-trained.
An austere atmosphere permeated heaven and earth. The moment Ma Yu gave the orders, the soldiers would fire their arrows and attack.
When Tao Zhi and her companions saw this, their expressions shifted dramatically. They might have been reduced to mortals, but they were, ultimately, cultivators. All of them had experienced numerous bloody battles. They could naturally tell at a glance that this army of experienced soldiers was coming for them.
“Split up and flee!” The man in teal instantly made a decision and dashed off.
The others did the same, except for Tao Zhi, who tried to follow the man in teal.

Her beautiful face was deathly pale, and she looked utterly frantic. Her heart was full of regret.
If I’d known this would happen, I’d have stuck with Su Good Guy and Pu Kind Guy!
“Senior Apprentice Sister, are you trying to get me killed?” The frantically fleeing man in teal turned to look at her, his expression hideous. Then, he sent her flying with a kick.
“If you want to die, do it yourself. Follow me, and I’ll kill you!” He gnashed his teeth, bellowed, and shot into the distant forest.
Tao Zhi clutched her stomach as agony coursed through her. Her hair was disheveled, and her eyes were wide with disbelief.
Her junior apprentice brother had always had feelings for her. She would never have guessed that he’d kick her away just to increase his chances of escape!
Kcch! Kcch! Kcch!
A rain of arrows flew through the air, followed by desperate cries.
One of the cultivators hadn’t gotten far when an arrow pierced his throat. Blood splattered the air, and he toppled over backward with a thud.
This bloody spectacle made Tao Zhi tremble. The blood drained from her face, and her soul practically left her body for sheer panic.
She’d never even considered that experts of the Immortal Dao would be so useless in this mundane realm. Mortal warriors were cutting them down like grass.
Tao Zhi endured the pain and rose to her feet, but just as she was about to flee, a horse whinnied and arrived beside her.
General Ma Yu was seated on its back.
He gazed down at her and raised his spear.
Tao Zhi’s knees turned to jelly, and she threw herself to the ground and cried out frantically, “Don’t kill me! Spare me, I beg of you! No matter what you want, I’ll do it. If it means I can live, I’ll... do anything!”
In the face of her imminent death, this illustrious expert of an immortal faction was completely frantic and overcome with terror.
Ma Yu evaluated her exquisitely beautiful face, then asked, “How many of you are there?”
Tao Zhi didn’t hesitate. “Nine!”
Ma Yu furrowed his brow. “That’s too few. Are there any others here in the wilderness?”
Tao Zhi was just about to shake her head when she suddenly recalled something. “There are two others! They went another way. If you’re willing to spare my life, I can guide you!”
She was desperate, overcome with terror, and clutching at straws.
Ma Yu grinned. “You’re quite a looker, and you’re clever, too. You’d make a good maidservant for my son!”
Tao Zhi kowtowed repeatedly. “I’m willing! I’m willing!”
Her heart was full of humiliation, but at the same time, she sighed in relief.
So long as she lived through this, a little humiliation wouldn’t matter. She’d experienced greater danger and brutality than this on her path of the Grand Dao already!
When she left the Huaihuang Empire, she’d be a lofty immortal once more!
Should the opportunity arise, she’d even pull some strings to send relatively weak cultivators into the Huaihuang Empire. With a few years of effort, she could avenge this humiliation!
“Get up,” said Ma Yu.
Only then did Tao Zhi dare to rise. She lowered her head, as pitiful as could be.
The soldiers gathered around them.
“Boss, they’re all dead. Not one escaped,” reported one of the soldiers.
“Oh? That woman sure is pretty. That’s an immortal from on high if I ever saw one! Boss, if you don’t like her, you can give her to me!” said an old soldier, his gaze heated.
He looked Tao Zhi up and down without reservation. “Look at that figure! She’s slender, but she’s got curves in all the right places, and she’s got a big butt, too. She could definitely give me a son!”
A burst of uproarious laughter followed.
Tao Zhi’s beautiful face shifted erratically, and she lowered her head. Her eyes welled with tears.
Her pitiful demeanor stirred the soldiers’ hearts. Women of such beauty were a rare sight indeed. They were practically nowhere to be found anywhere in Southern Currents City!
But Ma Yu shook his head. “No one is to have any untoward thoughts about her. It’s not that I want to claim her for myself, but that, pretty or not, she’s still a sky devil. Keeping her around will only endanger us. If you’re really pent-up, drag her off and vent your lusts on her first, but she has to die no matter what.”
Tao Zhi looked stricken, and her eyes widened with terror. “Your Excellency, you just promised to spare my life!”
Ma Yu’s gaze was inquisitive. “I was kidding. You really believed me? Huh. So, there are even foolish women like you among the sky devils?”
Tao Zhi felt as if she’d been plunged into an icy abyss. She was completely dumbstruck.
How dare a mere mortal treat me like this? He’s gone too far!
“I like her! Let me go first!” howled an old soldier. He shot toward Tao Zhi like a beast in rut.
But then, someone sighed. “You brought this on yourself, you know.”
This voice had only just rung out when the soldier charging at Tao Zhi exploded into ash and scattered to the wind.
This strange scene startled everyone present.
Ma Yu’s eyes flashed like lightning. He bellowed, “This humble one is General Ma Yu of Southern Currents City. I’m acting on orders to kill the sky devils who’ve invaded our borders. Who are you? Please, show yourself!”
Tao Zhi froze, then said with mad delight, “Fellow Daoist Su, is that you?”
Two figures approached from afar.
These were none other than Su Yi and Pu Xuan.
Heaven and earth were deathly silent.
Ma Yu’s eyes flashed, his expression utterly solemn. One hundred thousand armored soldiers followed him, all of them ready for battle.
But Su Yi ignored them all completely.
“Miss Tao Zhi, I’ll give you an opportunity to die with dignity,” said Su Yi, walking over to her, his expression calm. “Kill yourself, and you won’t need to worry about being violated.”
Kill myself?
Tao Zhi reacted as if struck by lightning. She threw herself to her knees and wept. “Fellow Daoist Su, I was wrong! I shouldn’t have abandoned you, and I certainly shouldn’t have sold you out. Still, we were once traveling companions. In light of that, please, spare my life just this once!”
She wept so hard it seemed her lungs might burst. It was as if she’d completely broken down.
“Do you think it’s okay to sell out those who helped you just to stay alive?” asked Su Yi.
Tao Zhi kowtowed and wept. “I was wrong! I was wrong!”
Su Yi’s gaze remained calm. “And if I’m not mistaken, not long after you rejoined your companions, you grumbled that you’d have been better off killing strangers like us while you had the chance, right?”
Tao Zhi stiffened. Even her tears stopped; she’d obviously been startled.
Pu Xuan couldn’t help but take another look at Su Yi, but he said nothing. However, when he looked at Tao Zhi, his gaze was noticeably colder than before.
Su Yi took out a jug of wine and had a sip. “Our paths crossed by chance, and we were willing to help you, but all you could think of was killing us to seize our treasures. Then, after landing in the hands of mortal soldiers, you were willing to sell us out so that you might live. Giving you a chance to die with dignity is more than compassionate enough.”
Pu Xuan drew his sword and smiled. “Miss Tao Zhi, if you can’t die with dignity, I can help you.”
Tao Zhi broke down and shrieked, “Why... Why are you...!”
Splurt!
Pu Xuan swung his sword, cutting her down.
Just like that, an otherworldly beauty from an immortal faction met her end.
“You were too clever for your own good. Your death isn’t at all worthy of pity.” Pu Xuan shook his head slightly.
From beginning to end, Ma Yu and his soldiers just watched. None of them acted recklessly.
The sight of that soldier instantly being reduced to ash was far too horrifying and unsettling; they dared not try anything.
“We are soldiers of the imperial court, and we were acting on orders. If we offended you earlier, we humbly request your forgiveness.” Ma Yu leaped off the back of his horse and clasped his fist in greeting.
Pu Xuan smiled. “If you’re threatening us, at least be direct about it. You’re saying that if we kill you, the emperor of the Huaihuang Empire will hunt us relentlessly, right?”
Ma Yu said gravely, “For two denizens of the Jianghu, less trouble is ultimately a good thing, isn’t it?”
Su Yi laughed. “We aren’t from the Jianghu. We’re, as you might call us, ‘sky devils.’”
One of the soldiers couldn’t help but say, “Sky devils are as helpless as ordinary, unarmed people. How could you possibly be sky devils?”
Su Yi pondered briefly, then suddenly raised his hand.
Throughout the surrounding ten thousand feet, the trees, grasses, and boulders were ripped from the ground, all of them emanating dazzling sword qi.
Pu Xuan seemed to have anticipated this. Inwardly, he couldn’t help but sigh.
This was a mundane nation. Here, the Laws of the Will of Heaven suppressed cultivators, reducing them to mere mortals.
Only Heavenly Sovereigns could contend with the power of the Laws!
Yet now, Su Yi was using the abilities of a cultivator. Of course, Pu Xuan was astonished!
But then, looking at Su Yi’s abilities from the perspective of a cultivator, they were actually rather weak, like a cultivator who’d only recently stepped onto the path of cultivation.
Su Yi was weak. Incomparably weak.
But here in this mundane territory, his feeble strength was nonetheless incomparably terrifying!
Indeed, the soldiers behind Ma Yu totally lost their cool. All of them looked stricken. Even their horses trembled beneath them.
“Is anyone else in the Huaihuang Empire capable of this sort of thing?” asked Su Yi.
Ma Yu said in a quavering voice, “I heard that the state preceptor, the master of Divine Stratagems Manor, and several other legendary experts can walk through the clouds, control objects from afar, and summon the wind. However, I’ve never seen their wondrous abilities for myself, so I don’t know if the rumors are true or not.”
“Oh?” said Su Yi. “What about now?”
He flipped his palm.
Boom!
Streaks of dazzling lightning suddenly surged forth, like contorted, shifting flood dragons dancing madly throughout heaven and earth, their destructive power stirring up the wind and clouds.
Ma Yu thudded to his knees and cried out, “You... You must be one of the immortals they speak of in legends!”
The other soldiers had long since been overcome with fright. They tumbled off their horses and kowtowed.
When Pu Xuan saw this, he couldn’t help but sigh with admiration.
