Chapter 1561: Impending Disaster

“You came from Nanjiang, Dao Friend?” Surprisingly, Lady Suyi did not look panicky or angry.

Ye Qing nodded. “That’s right.” Lady Suyi asked another question, “So, you followed the White Stone Gentleman to this place?”

Ye Qing smiled. “You are a smart one, lady. That is correct.”

“Forgive me, lady! This disciple was careless! This disciple deserved a million deaths!” The White Stone Gentleman immediately dropped to his knees and admitted his mistake. He finally realized why he had been feeling uneasy since his trip to Nanjiang. It wasn’t paranoia after all. It was because he had caught a tail.

“You do deserve death.” Lady Suyi said indifferently. “You know what to do, don’t you?”

“This disciple understands.” The White Stone Gentleman was surprised at first. Then, hatred and brutality welling in his eyes, he slowly rose to his feet.

As he stood, he took on his humanoid form. His goat limbs turned into human limbs, and his curly horn kept growing longer and longer. At the same time, butterflies bloomed on his horns, and butterflies danced around it.

“You deserve death!” Eyes bloodshot, the White Stone Gentleman roared angrily. The next moment, every flower on the horn withered, and the petals took to the air on their own even though there was no wind. Butterflies accompanied their dance and weaved a poetic, picturesque sight.

This picturesque sight was deadly, however. Those who saw the petals would lose their focus and consciousness without knowing, and those who made contact with the butterflies would disappear in both mind and soul.

Ye Qing remained calm, however. His eyes were bright and clear as if the petals failed to affect him in the slightest, nor did he try to dodge out of the butterflies’ way.

The next moment, Ye Qing opened his mouth and exhaled. It was like a sudden gust of strong eastern wind. It instantly ripped the picturesque scene to pieces and blew the petals and the butterflies away.

Shocked and angry, the White Stone Gentleman ran toward Ye Qing with his head lowered as if he was aiming for a headbutt. At the same time, waves of light washed out of his horns. Wherever the light went, the petals were cut into pieces, the butterflies were killed, and the space was pierced.

A hint of satisfaction flickered in the White Stone Gentleman’s eyes when he saw that Ye Qing wasn’t dodging. Even a Sage would be disemboweled if they were struck by his horns.

It was at this moment Ye Qing reached out and flicked the White Stone Gentleman in his horns.

The next second, the White Stone Gentleman felt an irresistible power spreading from his horns to every corner of his body.

Unable to withstand it, the White Stone Gentleman stumbled backward.

Every time he took a step, he felt as if death was floating closer to him. Just three steps later, he felt like he was going to die.

“Lady, save—!”

Terrified, the White Stone Gentleman turned around to look at Lady Suyi. However, his head and his body exploded the next instant.

His voice was still echoing in the air when a rain of blood fell, dyeing the petals, the butterflies, and the ground red.

Ye Qing and Lady Suyi remained perfectly clean and untouched though.

“I thought he’s your disciple? Why didn’t you save him?”

Ye Qing asked Lady Suyi with a smile on his face. He had never moved a step since the beginning until the end.

“He made a mistake, so he should pay the price.”

Lady Suyi said calmly, “Besides, death is not the end. He has simply returned to my god’s embrace.”

“Is that so?” Ye Qing asked curiously, “Can you tell me who your god is?”

“There’s no hurry. You will meet him very soon.” Lady Suyi smiled and turned toward the main hall. Then, she bowed to the statue.

As soon as she did this, the eyes of the statue suddenly turned dark and bottomless.

Ye Qing felt as if he had suddenly fallen into a trance, or his consciousness had suddenly become detached from his physical body. He flew into the nine firmaments and sank into the Nether. He did not know where he was or where he was going. He did not know how much time had passed, and all he could see was primal chaos.

An indefinite amount of time later—it could be a breath or two, three to five years, or even sixty years of spring and autumn—red light appeared in front of Ye Qing. A red sun was slowly rising into the sky and shining through the primal chaos.

The red sun was unbelievably huge. It overtook his entire vision.

Strangely, the red sun was only red on the periphery. It was pitch black like a black hole at the center.

When the red sun came closer, Ye Qing finally realized that it wasn’t a sun at all. It was an eyeball. An unbelievably huge eyeball.

The eyeball was red, and the pupil was pitch black. It looked cold, cruel, and heartless.

As the red light slowly spread to the surroundings, a human face entered Ye Qing’s vision.

It was a human face, but its facial features were much different from your ordinary person.

It had only one eye, and its pupils were vertical like a snake’s.

Its ears were large like a palm-leaf fan and shaped like a bull’s ear.

Its nose was long like a dragon and shaped like an elephant’s nose.

And its mouth was flat and wide and shaped like a crocodile’s mouth.

It was indescribably incongruous for such features to appear on a human face, and yet it was also glowing with divine, dignified light.

The body followed after the face, and it was only stranger. Half of the body was male, and half of the body was female. It was massive and meandering like a mountain range.

The lower part of the body was a blob of uncertain, everchanging chaos. It looked like wind, hail, snow, rain, fire, water...

“The Impending Disaster!”

Ye Qing exclaimed with a hint of terror.

In ancient times, there existed a great Stranger called the Impending Disaster. Born from death and disasters and manifested from the muddiness of the Heavenly Way, it gave birth to disasters and threw the world into chaos as soon as it appeared. On the other hand, the world was calm and at peace when it was missing.

In ancient times, the world was still young and foolish, and the Heavenly Way was muddied and unclear, an Impending Disaster had emerged to spawn countless disasters and scourges. All things suffered, and countless lives were lost. Thankfully, the Human Sovereign appeared and gathered the strength of everyone to slay the infinite source of disaster and scourges in Primal Chaos, returning peace and calm to humanity. Such was his merit that the heavens bestowed him with virtuous karma and cemented his name. That was how the Human Sovereign’s glorious reign began.

The Impending Disaster was a terrifying being, and there was no one in the world who did not fear it. They called it all sorts of nicknames such as Lord of Disaster, God of Tribulations, the Scourge Demon, the Calamity Sovereign and more. Because of this, some places still held annual festivals called the Lord of Disaster Day, the Calamity Sovereign Festival and more to this day. They butchered livestocks and performed an offering ritual to the Impending Disaster so that it would

not

descend upon humanity. They also asked for peace and prosperity.

Worship of the Impending Disaster was scarce within the four empires and the central continent, but the same could not be said for other places. Some were extremely zealous about their worship, and there were even countries who worshiped the Stranger and made human sacrifices to it every year.

Because of this, the Impending Disaster’s image was quite widespread. This was why Ye Qing was able to recognize it instantly.

Lady Suyi is planning to summon the Impending Disaster? She truly deserves damnation!

If the Impending Disaster truly were to descend upon humanity, the one hundred thousand people of Nanjiang would just be the beginning of the casualties. Countless more would die under its wrath. The consequences would have been unimaginable.

As if it could sense his thoughts, the Impending Disaster’s singular red eye abruptly looked at him.

The moment the eye locked onto him, infinite and fast energies of disaster and power of calamities descended upon him. For a time, Ye Qing’s mind wobbled, and his consciousness flickered in and out. He was like a candle flame in a stormy sea and under assault by a terrible storm.

But no matter how small or weak the candle flame appeared to be, it refused to go out no matter what.
