Chapter 1565: Niu

Chapter 1565: Niu

Why was he fortunate? Because he ran into Lady Suyi.

If Niu hadn’t run into Lady Suyi, he would have starved to death at some random alley long ago. However, Lady Suyi didn’t just heal his injuries, she also fed him. Even after he recovered, he only needed to come here and do a bit of work to earn three meals a day.

“Niu... greets the lady. B-Bless you with good luck and fortune... m-may you live long and well...” Niu walked up to the entrance of the main hall and dropped to his knees. Then, he respectfully kowtowed to Lady Suyi while showering her with words of blessing. Although his actions were clumsy, and his speech was stuttery, he was serious, respectful, and sincere.

Lady Suyi did not try to stop him. Everyone in the monastery was used to this as well.

Since Lady Suyi rescued Niu, he kowtowed and offered her auspicious words almost every day. Lady Suyi tried to stop him at the beginning, but he insisted on this course of action no matter what.

Over time, Lady Suyi had no choice but to allow him to do as he pleased.

No one noticed that the back of Niu’s head had slowly split open to reveal a blue eye, however. It looked up, down, left and right while ripples of blue light formed many mysterious and profound runes. It looked like it could observe every direction and perceive even the most minute detail. It was observing anything and everything in the Taoist monastery.

A short while later, after confirming that nothing seemed to be amiss, the blue eye slowly shrank back into the back of Niu’s head. The wound also mended back to normal in the blink of an eye.

A moment later, Niu stopped kowtowing and bowed to Lady Suyi with his hands held in front. Then, he joined the others in their labor.

“White... White Boy? Where? Why... no see?” Niu asked the man beside him after working for a bit.

“Huh? It was just basking in the sun at the entrance a while ago. Did it disappear again?”

The man scratched his head but paid it no heed. He said uncaringly, “I guess the lady sent it away for some other business.”

Niu soundlessly asked a couple more people the same question. He received the same answer from everyone.

Niu stopped talking after that. He focused on the work in front of him.

When Niu was done, he went over to the main hall where Lady Suyi was at and respectfully kowtowed to her. Then, he turned away and left the monastery.

After leaving the monastery, Niu limped his way back to his home. He ran into a couple of naughty children on the way. They followed behind him and called him a retarded person and a gimp. They even threw rocks at him sometimes. He did not fly into a rage though. He simply smiled and went his way.

If he ran into stray dogs or cats along the way, he would stop in his tracks and feed them tiny pieces of his mantou.

Niu didn’t live far from the Taoist monastery. But because of his limp, it took him an entire incense stick to make it back to his dwelling.

The house he lived in was tiny, shabby, and full of holes. It was hidden from the sun and so was extremely dark and humid. The roof, the walls, the furniture and more were all covered in mold and giving off a moldy smell. A healthy person would have gotten sick if they lived in this place long enough.

Niu seemed to be used to it though. He dumbly grinned and greeted his neighbors before stepping inside.

However, the instant he went inside his room, the dumb smile on his face vanished into nothing, and his expression became cold and murderous. He no longer looked retarded in the slightest.

The next moment, a noise that sounded like a paper was being ripped apart or a piece of fabric was torn open at the seams echoed inside the house. The next moment, a blue eyeball crawled out of the back of his head.

The eyeball was about the size of a human fist. Trailing behind it were many blood vessels that looked like vines.

As the vines stretched outward, the eyeball eventually circled in front of Niu.

“Did you find anything?”

Niu asked the eyeball in a cold, clear voice. His previous timidness and stammer were nowhere to be found.

“Nothing, husband. Everything in the monastery looks normal, and Lady Suyi is definitely the real Lady Suyi.”

A voice came from the eyeball. It was seductive and gentle like an unbelievably beautiful woman who was spilling her heart out to her lover. It was an attractive voice to say the least.

A closer inspection would reveal that there was, in fact, a woman residing inside the eyeball. She was half naked and lying on a bamboo recliner. She was wearing her hair loosely and fanning herself with an exquisite-looking fan. She looked indescribably charming and beautiful.

Niu frowned. “Strange. If that is true, then why did I suddenly lose track of the monastery just now?”

The woman in the eyeball giggled. “Who knows? Maybe Lady Suyi was practicing some sort of Magia or secret art. You worry too much, husband.”

Niu sighed. “You think I want to? His Holiness’ grand plans hinge on all this. I cannot afford to grow lax or lower my guard for even a moment. I would rather overworry than otherwise.”

The woman chided him, “His Holiness, His Holiness! You only have eyes for His Holiness! What about me, huh? Do I still exist in your heart?”

“Silence! You dare blaspheme against His Holiness? Are you courting death!” Niu erupted in anger when he heard this. Demonic light surged, and lightning flashed in his eyes. It was spine-chilling.

The woman covered her face with the fan and started sobbing. Her cries were undeniably sad, yet strangely melodious. It made those who heard her cries feel like crying as well.

“Stop pretending already. You know it doesn’t work on me.” Niu did not seem to care about her cries at all, however. His voice remained as cold as ever.

The woman sobbed, “Don’t you love me anymore, husband?”

Niu caressed the eyeball like it was the most precious thing in the world. “Of course I do. If I don’t, I wouldn’t let you practice the Six Heavens Ghost Eye and accompany me for eternity, would I? Do you see how much I love you now?”

“Haha... I knew you still love me, husband.”

The woman broke into a smile. “So, when are we going home, husband? It’s been a long time since I’ve tasted a delicious soul.”

“Soon.” Niu comforted her. “His Holiness’ grand plan will be fulfilled very soon. Once the matter is settled, you may eat as many souls as you want.”

“Haha... that’s incredible!”

The woman beamed. “So, when will his Holiness’ grand plans be fulfilled, husband?”

“Soon. very soon.” Niu replied slowly and yearningly, “The day the Impending Disaster appears is the day His Holiness’ plans succeed.”

“Right now, all we need to do is to keep a close eye on Lady Suyi and ensure that the Impending Disaster will descend successfully.”

“Okay! Don’t worry, husband. With me by your side, everything will proceed as planned!”

“Hahaha...”
