Chapter 1585: Suppressing The Yellow Spring
Chapter 1585: Suppressing The Yellow Spring
“Tsk... you know it costs nothing to boast, right?” The Chief Libationist taunted, “Who do you think you are? Me?”
Although his tone was scornful, the alarm bells in his head were ringing louder, not softer.
So, the Chief Libationist decided to go after the leader first. He would kill Emperor Jing Run and end this farce as soon as possible.
The Chief Libationist waved his sleeve. It wasn’t big, but it looked like it could store a world.
Sun and moon may grow in a jar. A world may exist in a sleeve.
It looked like he would put Emperor Jing Run into his sleeve.
In fact, he succeeded.
Emperor Jing Run was shoved into a sleeve only inches long without resistance.
That was precisely the problem. The Chief Libationist felt even more worried despite having removed one of the most troublesome variables from the playing field.
It wasn’t just because Emperor Jing Run hadn’t tried to dodge or resist his suppression at all. It was also because the Son of Heaven Sword of Yellow Spring was still planted on the ground. He had tried to remove it with Emperor Jing Run, but it turned out to be so heavy that he wasn’t able to suppress it immediately.
The Chief Libationist took a step forward and grabbed the sword’s handle.
When his hand made contact with the sword, energies of supreme yin and evil, corruption and filth instantly flooded into his body. If he was anyone else, the energies might have wiped out his mind in an instant and warped him into a monster.
But who was the Chief Libationist? He was the unequaled greatest Sage under the heavens. Naturally, he did not fear the foreign energies at all. A shockwave of true qi was all he needed to eliminate it. He then focused his strength on pulling out the Son of Heaven Sword of Yellow Spring.
“Huh? How is it so heavy?”
He... failed again, to his surprise.
The Chief Libationist sucked in a deep breath and filled his body with righteous qi. In this state, he could move even entire lands.
Rumble...
The entire imperial capital was shaking from the sheer amount of force that was involved.
“This isn’t right.” Finally, the chief Libationist noticed something amiss. In his senses, the Son of Heaven Sword of Yellow Spring seemed to be connected to some sort of heavy, mysterious object. It was denser than mountains and heavier than rivers, and that object was descending to the human world through the Son of Heaven Sword of Yellow Spring.
Spiritual light flashed in the Chief Libationist’s eyes, and clear, righteous qi combined into a strange pupil. It appeared at the center of his forehead and seemingly possessed the power to see through everything including the Nether.
It was a Magia called the Heaven Seeing Pupil.
Through the Son of Heaven Sword of Yellow Spring, the Chief Libationist saw... a river.
The river seemed endlessly wide and long. Its waters were polluted and dark yellow. Yin wind howled above it, and stormy waves surged above its surface. Rotten corpses and bones could be seen bobbing up and down its waters. It was also filled with the eternal, spine-chilling screams and wails of countless ghosts.
“The Yellow Spring...!”
It was the Yellow Spring, and no, it wasn’t the illusion the Ghost Ancestor of Mount Mang had created using his Magia earlier.
He also saw what looked like a gigantic sword. One end of the sword was peeking through a gap in space, and the other end was connected to the Yellow Spring.
Worse, he saw the waters of the Yellow Spring flowing up the giant sword and into the spatial gap.
“You finally noticed, teacher, but it’s too late.”
Emperor Jing Run’s voice came from the sleeve.
As if on cue, the ground that had just regained its calm began shaking once more. Not only that, cracks were appearing on its surface.
Smelly, filthy river water was seeping out of the cracks. It was mixed with ghoulish cries and ghastly wails as well.
“You’ve gone mad, Jing Run! How dare you draw the Yellow Spring to the human world!”
The Chief Libationist was both shocked and furious. “Are you trying to destroy Chu?!”
The river water leaking out of the cracks was none other than the water of the Yellow Spring.
Emperor Jing Run had used the Son of Heaven Sword of Yellow Spring to breach the barrier between the Nether and the human world and pull the yellow Spring into the human world.
Any other divine artifact would have met incredible, if not impossible resistance in their attempt to execute this task. However, the Son of Heaven Sword of Yellow Spring was different.
King Taishan had forged the Son of Heaven Sword of Yellow Spring using the soul of the Yin Dragon of Yellow Spring, and the Yellow Spring was the outcome after the Yin Dragon of Yellow Spring died and decayed. The duo were naturally linked to one another.
Moreover, Emperor Jing Run had become a Yin Son of Heaven, one that was approved by King Taishan no less. Therefore, he was able to unleash the Son of Heaven Sword of Yellow Spring’s power to its absolute limits.
These two factors ultimately allowed Emperor Jing Run to breach the barrier between the two worlds and draw the waters of Yellow Spring to humanity.
The Yellow Spring was the culmination of all things evil, filthy and corrupt. It was the place where fallen ghosts resided. If the Yellow Spring were to appear in humanity, then the human world would be invaded and even transformed into a part of the Nether. All living things caught by it would be twisted into monsters. The human world would turn into a living purgatory.
This was Emperor Jing Run’s true plan, and King Taishan’s shadow was behind it. The ancient must be plotting to use Emperor Jing Run to draw the Yellow Spring to the human world and corrupt it all into the Nether.
Of course, there was no way he could actually corrupt the entire human world. But a nation? A realm? That was much more plausible.
For example, Emperor Jing Run could corrupt Chu. Even corrupting the imperial capital alone would be enough.
“Destroy? You’re saying that when you’re the one who made me do this?” Emperor Jing Run asked in a cold voice. “But don’t worry. Chu is mine. Everything in the world is mine. I can never bear to destroy it.”
“I simply desire to make this empire better. If everything in the realm becomes a part of the Nether, then they would become immortal just like me. Birth, aging, sickness, or death; sorrow, happiness, sadness or suffering won’t exist anymore. Isn’t that a good thing?”
“Oh right, I shouldn’t be just aiming to convert Chu. I should aim to convert the entire human world into the Nether as well. All of life should fall under my feet.”
“You are delusional! You have no idea what you’re doing!” The Chief Libationist rebuked him harshly. “No matter what you or the mastermind behind you are plotting, I will not allow you to succeed!”
By mastermind, he was talking about King Taishan, of course. There was no way this could be happening without the intervention of that ancient.
There were many reasons why King Taishan would want to do this. Maybe it was to rebuild the Underworld and old Fengdu. Maybe it was to invade the human world. Maybe it was because he was coveting the countless human souls that resided in the human world. Maybe it was because he was hoping to use this opportunity to return to the human world. It was all possible.
But no matter what his reason was, the Chief Libationist would never allow this to happen.
Never.
The Chief Libationist straightened his palms. He then bent his left arm to form a square, and his right arm to form a circle.
Square and circle were like heaven and earth. They made a world. With a world in one’s chest, how could one not guard a realm no matter how vast?
When the chief Libationist bent his knees slightly and lowered his arms just as much, the sun, moon and stars shone brightly above his head, and the mountains and rivers shook violently under his feet. Righteous true qi flowed out of him in a circle, and for a moment, the land within dozens of kilometers shone brightly. It looked like everything was covered in snow.
The gushing waters of Yellow Spring instantly dried, and the spreading cracks on the earth slowly mended.
With a square and a circle, the Chief Libationist alone had suppressed the Yellow Spring and kept it from breaching the human world.
This was just the beginning though.
The next moment, the Chief Libationist’s mind seemingly crossed untold distance to appear above the actual Yellow Spring.
As if sensing the presence of an uninvited guest, the evil ghosts of the Yellow Spring burst out as a gigantic wave and rushed toward the Chief Libationist.
